The Sky

The clouds thundered and mind wandered

in that solitary rainy nights to those misty thoughts

the smell of damp earth and pounding heart beats

I saw the sky, dark yet with a gracious poise,

reflecting me and my cup of tea.

There is a mountain, there is a forest and there is a sea

all of which the sky held close, with love and care

with blankets and roses, contrasting them

like her love, like her life…like my life.

The bold mountain rose high, stands, piercing the sky…no, growing

the drifting clouds passing by

its strength causing thunders, showers and later serenity;

A bold serenity.

The fresh and green forest, lives, gently tickling the sky.. no, nourishing

the drifting clouds passing by

its energy causing a pleasant wind, dance and later havoc;

A bold havoc.

The blue and deep sea, waves, blurring boundaries of the sky…no, merging

the drifting clouds passing by

its vastness causing a dangerous tide and later profundity;

A bold profundity.

But the sky is a bird, flying around and around

free..I thought

not bothered nor realising the mountain, the forest or the sea

buoyant…I thought

not scared of the serenity, havoc or the profundity

fearless.. I thought

And letting those bright rays to shine, no matter what

strong…I thought

But alas..how wrong I am…how very wrong.

    Anjali … Really nice poetry. It was very visual and gave a nice respite teleporting somewhere mentally.

    I liked the casualness in “reflecting me and my cup of tea.”

    This was very creative – “all of which the sky held close, with love and care”

    I liked the metaphor you drew here .. “like her love, like her life…like my life.”. It will be interesting to imagine what are the skies, forests, mountains, clouds and seas in your/ our lives are 🙂

    “And letting those bright rays to shine, no matter what” -> not in the dark and gloomy Germany 😀

    “But alas..how wrong I am…how very wrong.” – Are you referring to Trump here? 😀

    Great writing!

    Thanks very much Ramesh! It really means a lot when you appreciate.

    The whole poem is about one person actually and how I feel about this person in question. Mountain, sea and forest being the character traits.
    It reflects how we can always have an idea of a person but he/she doesn’t necessarily need to be as per our perception.
